LABOUR LEADERSHIP: Blair & Campbell are behind Smith. But who’s inside Smith?

Don’t expect any help from this man if you are a Waspi, anti EU Federalism, opposed to HS2, think corporations should pay more tax, believe Civil Service feather-bedding should be stopped, want more control over lobbyists, or think good manners are important

Owen who?

mesnip18716Last night, Owen Smith called Jeremy Corbyn “a lunatic”, having once accepted a Shadow Cabinet role from the bloke. This morning he apologised. It’s a bit late for that, Owen – I think we’ve got you sized up already, chum. The Slog takes a look at the men behind Smith – and the track-record guide to who is really vying to  overthrow Corbyn and win the Labour leadership.

Tony Blair thinks the only reason Britain voted for Brexit was because there are too many ‘uneducated’ Britons. When Blair was trying to get into power during the late 1990s, he said he would put “education, education and education” as his top three prorities. So if the nation is ignorant, one might think he was in some way implicated in the outcome.

But no, you see it was we the nasty old folks who were uneducated. Yes, it was us: the very same folks who marched against the war in Vietnam, legalised homosexuality, ended the death penalty, got the Race Relations Act on the statute, and overwhelmingly voted for liberal causes when young. We’re ignorant.

In fact, according to Moral Tone, we’re so ignorant we can’t see how the UAE is a model State in the way it chops off limbs and executes women for alleged infidelity. Mind you, he would say that….he’s their image consultant.

Still, in some ways he has a point. For in 1997, my generation gave Blair a landslide victory (I went abroad and abstained) and then returned him twice more to power. And you’d have to be pretty incurably dense to do that.

What’s more, in the 2016 referendum, the generation he educated either didn’t turn up, or demonstrated how Labour has deserted them by voting UKIP. And on balance I’d say that was evidence of well-informed behaviour.

Tony sums up by saying we’re just not waking up to a world in which stone age social policies exist alongside neanderthal economics. We need…..modernising. So we can better understand that female pensioners should foot the bill for his greatest ego-trip, Connecting for Health: £22 billion pissed away on an IT programme that never connected, and nearly bankrupted our system of health provision.

The moderniser Blair (and his consultancy partner/shareholder Alastair ‘I made it all up’ Campbell) are supporting this time around is Owen Smith. Owen Smith has selflessly thrust himself forward in a determined effort to overturn the overwhelming election of Jeremy Corbyn as Labour leader by yet another stupid mob of ignorant voters.

And Smith now offers a double-whammy of courage in that he has this morning vowed to overturn the decision of all those scumfascistracistoldbigots to leave the European Union. Owen’s a game boy, you have to give him that: if elected leader, he is personally going to ensure that any attempt by the Mayflower crew to do the Will of the People will be blocked. Pretty much, by the sound of it, the way Nicola ‘Clitheroe’ Sturgeon said she was going to do it.

But Owen Smith is a tad vague about how he proposes to ensure that the will of the educated élite will prevail through the medium of his body here on Earth. His rhetoric is good: the rhetoric I like, it’s a very good rhetoric for the role:

“We will vote in Parliament to block any attempt to invoke Article 50 until Theresa May commits to a second referendum or a general election on whatever EU exit deal emerges at the end of the process.”

Er, that’s it. And the Conservative government has a majority of, um, 100 over Labour. Even if Smith got Sturgeon onside (and I for one would love to see him try) that still leaves 46 more votes for Mrs Mayormaynot.

But hey, maybe Smith is SuperpolMan. Maybe he can also manage to get what nobody has yet managed: the DWP and the Treasury to even engage with the Waspi women about the blatant theft of their 60-years promised State pensions. Because that’s how powerful he’s going to be if the sadly ignorant stupid Labour Party electorate is deranged enough to support his candidature above that of the 2015-elected Jeremy Corbyn.

Owen Smith has pledged to scrap the controversial ‘fit-for-work test’ for sick and disabled people if elected to government….but not for SPA victims denied their pensions

Owen Smith is not just pro-EU….he is in favour of more EU integration

Owen Smith wants a new and better way to kill people with nuclear weapons, and has thus consistently voted to replace Trident with ‘something better’.

Owen Smith has consistently voted against the encouragement of occupational pensions, but has no recorded view on what to do about SPA reforms

Owen Smith voted against all measures designed to reduce tax avoidance

He has always voted in favour of HS2

He has always voted against a cap on Civil Service redundancy payments

He has always voted against a cap on legal fees

He has generally voted against a statutory record of lobbyists and their interests

Was a huge fan of Brown’s disastrous Private Finance Initiative for the NHS

A very clear picture emerges here, and it’s called Blair2. Superstate, weapons sector, offshore wealth, private sector ripoffs, lawyer privileges bureaucrat perks, lobbying graft* and élite rail links….Owen’s very relaxed with all of it.

The bloke is standard issue, privilege-seeking corporate Statist. He has just four years experience as an MP.

*There are good reasons for this – Smith used to be a lobbyist for Pfizer.

  1. Would I rather know all this or not? I would rather know.

But I become more and more dismayed at these completely out of touch arrogant know it alls who couldn’t run an ice cream stand. Juncker (“I am a drunk and when it gets serious I have to lie”) yesterday saying “Borders are the worst invention ever made by politicians”, that evil woman who cannot stop lying amongst other severely flawed personality traits standing for President of the USA (and people who are STILL intending to vote for her!) – the list goes on and on.

I forget who it was now, but a couple of years ago one of the American commentators described the history of the USA as one of ‘snake oil salesmen and hucksters’. Unfortunately over the years the UK has ‘aspired’ to these ideals and we’ve had the likes of Tony B. Liar, Mandelson, Campbell, Cameron, Osborne, Owen Smith et al. PoSs, all of them (sorry John but they do make me that angry).

  2. Looks like women will be ruling the roost next year. Clinton..May..Yellen…Merkel… Legarde. Also probably a female UN leader as well. Who would have thought.

  3. @ David C.
I think you are being very unkind to hucksters and snake oil salesmen. They followed truly noble careers compared to the motley crew of spinners, liars and politico you list above

(Edited to avoid the FreedomSoftware censorship of WordPress, provided by the people who bought brought you Owen Smith…)

    But who’s inside Smith?

I was wondering who might profit from his being imp*sed on the Labour party.

  6. Ah! That worked… now to try the other bit that WordPress corporations didn’t like… it’s all part of the great democracy that is the US/UK axis of power.

  7. They don’t like the word ‘cens*rsh*p’ for some reason.

I can’t for the life of me imagine why an open and democratic institution like WordPress would be offended by it…

  8. @DavidC

Agree fully but they are prepping now for what comes next and TBH reckon it will be for the worst.

Evil people like “Owen Smith” never do good things and the actions of Blair should have told you that, they only ever do evil things and where this is all going just like Clinton.

I marked their card on this for one reason now, everywhere they want to remove the power of the vote no matter how small, silence any voice and treat you as a slave. So how do slaves protest with no voice? … In history now no exception they revolt or they are still slaves.

That die and fight has been cast so to speak and there is no going back and what is more interesting the MSM is now a propoganda machine not a voice of truth, a voice of deceit. When that pillar collapsed their can be no way back, information is now the continual disinformation in all things.

Socially the stage is set, BREMAIN is now at war with BREXIT, a cold war for now and you have no way to unite the two so a matter of time until it becomes a hot war. Well there is a way but that would upset the masters, make the EU commission elected from the elected MEP’s and turn them into a fully fledged democracy.

Can noone see that? Then it works otherwise it must burn.

  9. Sorry, the US/UK FreedomSoftware that protects the innocent from thinking the impossible has defeated me again.

I think they’re trying to tell me to read – and believe – what is stated in the Mainstream Media. Don’t you agree? After all, it is their view of the truth…

the problem with Owen Smith is that there is so much to be earned through his establishment as a party leader. Just in the way that events of the 1930s were turned in order to make a stack for the corporations…

I’m pretty sure they’d be able to c-e-n-s-o-r that comment, now.

  10. Owen Smith is hard as jelly and twice as wobbly – which is why the right wing labour party ‘likes’ him – what is it that the right wing labour party don’t get about 2 appalling general election defeats????

  11. Mr Smith is a dork who refuses to acknowledge the referendum result. He is not fit for public office. A past career as a lobbyist.shows only too well his chameleon, superficial, contrived persona.

  12. Mark Deacon,
I never liked Blair from the start and never voted for him, got shouted down by friends when I voiced concerns about him, since vindicated.

I didn’t vote in the last general election because I couldn’t bring myself to vote for ANY of them – all selfish grubby halfwits as far as I’m concerned. I DID vote in the EU Referendum because I consider that to be the most important vote I will have had in my lifetime (yes, I did vote leave).

  13. IMHO, anyone who could represent a company like *fizer, or any of the other increasingly amalgamated and more powerful entities parading under the banner of BigPharma or its cousin BigAg, is not fit for purpose as a politician and surely has discordant “principles” from most Labour supporters. On that note, where is the concern expressed anywhere on the about-to-be acquisition of Syngenta (already a merger of Novartis and Astra Zeneca) by China? (Approved by a US regulator by the way). Can it in any way be in the world’s interests to have our food-growing industry dominated by Monsanto and ChemChina?

  14. StephenRoi, if Corbyn is a corprolite, then why is he lambasted in the Houses of Parliament? Why have the corporations gone to such lengths to oust him from the leadership? Why are these same corporations giving him such a hard time in the Media?

Because, believe me, if he were a corporalite, his life would be a whole lot simpler – and nicer.

But that’s why most people prefer a nice, quiet life where they don’t criticize the corporations, and accept that their pensions will be robbed so as to allow the corporations to keep their hard earned money.

  15. I’m beginning to think that the British government has a very real sense of humour… one that it practices on the people who voted for it every day.

I mean, half the things JW speaks of really are a government that is having a laugh at our expense.

In that respect, it pleases me that the German government doesn’t laugh in this way.

  16. John FAO GEMMA>………….’owz this for British humour?
I am informed by an piece on the canary web Sight: The coal miners have/are been in the process of their pensions being lifted.
No end to it is there ?….unless you are a banker or got a big ocean going tub……..
The penny may drop…this is money the ill served industrial waste lands could do with!J

  17. in defence of the voters in 1997, they would have voted for anybody or thing as the option to 17 years of asset stripping.. and then they got torylite. no wonder they lost interest.. followed by the liberals implosion .. ( for me i did not see any of them worth voting for.,)

  18. I heard Owen Smith on the BBC Today Programme on radio 4 this morning. John Humphries managed to show him up for what he is ; an arrogant evil man with a total disdain for the general public and the Labour Party electorate. For the Labour Party and the country Corbyn is the better choice.

  19. Owen is just a test of popularity for Blairism. The next attempt at the leadership will be more serious than Owen. Good article John.
