HACKGATE

Recognising that some folks want to read the whole history of Newscorp’s slow descent into criminality, this section of The Slog puts it all in one place to take you through it in some kind of vaguely chronological order….so you can catch up as and when Banker-bashing palls.

I’ve set the clock ticking at the start of December 2010, although it should really go back to 2002 when, the evidence suggests, the practice of phone-hacking became commonplace in the media. And as the scandal spreads out to other newspaper groups – as it inevitably will – this page will cover it.

This page has rapidly grown as Hackgate spread first to the Police, the rest of Fleet Street, the Judiciary, the Opposition, the Government, and the Royal Family.

Enjoy…..there’s plenty more to come, so bookmark this page!

    March 8, 2012 Update 12:35PM

CLANDESTINE SHADOW PHONE NETWORK also referred to as an INTERNATIONAL INTRANET

    “Neuromancer” anyone? (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuromancer)
That is a reference to the 1984 novel by WILLIAM GIBSON that in many ways foreshadowed the internet and much more about our society in the future. That future is now.

ACCORDING TO A SOURCE : There is a deep shadow network behind the traditional telephone network that you only get access to by invitation and involves people who are on the criminal side as well as no doubt, government and alphabet agency types who tap into phone calls and then sell them on a black market for lots of money to for example HIGH FREQUENCY TRADERS (HFTs) who then use this info to make trades, currency calls etc. You can see where a network like this can be very advantageous to the participants.

FURTHER: This also relates back to the recent MURDOCH TELEPHONE TAPPING SCANDAL … because what apparently did not come out during that inquiry and trial is that Murdoch’s boys did not have to tap anyone’s phone directly. Instead they simply connected with an individual who then gave them access to this hidden phone network and told them what calls from which people they wanted to PURCHASE… and paid them for the ‘tapped calls’.
