Is it pure tabloid ghoulism to want to know the toxicology results following the autopsy of Chipping Norton Tory Chairman on 25th June last? No: I’m sorry for Mr Shale’s family, who’d just like to be left alone, but coroners don’t ask for toxicology results for the fun of it. And Mr Shale did die in a portaloo at a rock concert. And he was a close friend of the Prime Minister, Mr David Cameron. And Mr Cameron is, at the moment, trying to avoid discussing the recreations of choice inside the Village of Shame that is Chipping Norton.

It isn’t usually the seriousness or consequences of an incident that determines how long an investigation takes. In both cases I mentioned, the evidence was immediately available in spades. Slam dunk.

In the de Menezes case, the CPS (after about one year’s unexplained delay) quietly announced on a Friday afternoon that no charges would be brought because the police gunman would use the “honest belief” defence under the law. But there was NO legal basis for that, so the CPS were seriously undermining the Rule of Law (probably due to political pressure from Blair’s govt).

That defence is only accepted by a court/jury if there is irrefutable evidence to support it eg: a perp came running at you with a loaded gun pointed at your head and you shot him to defend yourself. You could then use the “honest belief” defence, meaning that you honestly believed that if you had not shot him, then he would have shot you. If the body of the perp is found with a loaded gun in his hand, then you’d probably get away with it. If it isn’t, then your defence would probably be thrown out. Lawyers advise that “honest belief” is a difficult defence and has to be supported by clear, irrefutable evidence.

The police gunman could only have claimed that his “honest belief” was derived from information passed to him by Met Gold Control (Cressida Dick), but the law contains NO provision for a 2nd hand “honest belief” defence…it has to be derived by the killer based upon his own personal assessment at the scene.

During the inquiry, the police gunman claimed that de Menezes was wearing a large padded jacket which he believed housed a bomb but three independent witnesses (other passengers) said that was untrue and that he was actually wearing a thin open jacket. IOW the policeman lied.

More…the Met Police kratos policy under which de Menezes was killed was so important that Sir Ian Blair must have personally signed it off and probably the Home Secretary too. They should have been brought to book for implementing an obviously flawed police policy. But nothing ever happened about that.

Never, would probaly be the chosen time. I share the sentiment about the publicity, or there lack of, in the case of Messrs Shale.

However it should be noted why there is a difference. Mr Shale’s aquaintences and employer ( Government) cannot afford another scandal. ( I have wagered that Drugs will not be cited as a cause of death). Hmmm
On the other hand we have Mr whine house IMO trying to make a martyr out of his daughter, not to mention a few extra schillings, and maybeez a nice bit of publicity ( as I suspect he is yet another ‘celebrity junkie on the way up). Tabloids here he comes, open them there checkbooks…

Bankrupt Taxpayer I don’t think comparing a failed custard pie attempt on Rupert Murdoch and the shooting dead of that unfortunate Brazilian immigration overstayer is a terribly good comparison they are on completely different ends of the Richter scale. That said I completely share your cynicism about the present British state and our appalling political class. The custard pie incident was shown on live TV and at Stockwell underground station the CCTV had apparently failed.

That was indeed the hidden part of my comment. There are stories about Osama, sorry Obama’s, past activities with respect to controlled substances fortunately none current that I am aware of. But his opposition comes in all shapes and sizes and most of them (Perry, Bachman)are straight out of the asylum. Who knows what they are on! It is the Christian fundamentalists that scare me most whether or not they are powder consumers.

Well put and I totally agree.
The problem is that if the political elites and their armies of civil servants want an explanation for why people riot and break the law, they could do a lot worse than looking at their own corrupt/crooked behaviour.
I’m increasingly of the view that it comes down to “what’s good for the goose etc …”, a sure sign that our whole system of government is slowly imploding.

I am frankly not bothered if these people choose to go to an early grave. It saves tax payer monies in the long run. I do, however, want whoever has their finger on the nuclear trigger to be of sound mind and body.

2 – 4 weeks is about the going rate for tox results, depending on the workload of the lab in question. 2 months does seem an implausibly long time unless of course they have been released to the family who have been asked (sorry, told) to keep it under hat until the story blows over and no one is interested or even remembers, Christopher who?

You’re right to flag this up. I don’t know why Shale’s toxicology results are taking so long…one can only speculate. But there is a huge disparity between the time it takes agencies of the state to produce toxicology and other investigation results depending on the circumstances of the case.

When someone threw a shaving foam pie at Murdoch in a HoC committee room he was charged/tried and imprisoned within ~14 days. But when it comes to a policeman blowing the head off of an innocent Brazilian on the tube, it took about one year to complete the investigations, even though the details of the incident were quite straightforward. No charges brought.
Likewise the rioters: those already caught have been charged and processed through the courts in double quick time.

It’s clear that the police, CPS and other agencies of the state carry out these tests, investigations and inquiries according to a timetable which suits their agenda. And they think people haven’t spotted it…
